The Florida Association of Special Districts was created in 1976 to sustain special districts and build a support structure to ensure the continuation of all types of special districts.

Being a part of FASD is imperative to the continued growth of special districts in the state of Florida.  Strength of the united alliances between all special districts will ensure the future of the unique quality of service provided to the public through special districts in Florida today.

The Florida Association of Special Districts is the Department of Community Affairs primary education and training is to satisfy the educational requirements of CH. 189, FS.  FASD is dedicated to educating elected boards and district managers to ensure they comply with the Florida Statutes governing special districts. 

The core of our education program takes place at our annual conference each June and supplemented by regular educational programs at member meetings throughout the year. FASD is committed in the promotion of professionalize among special district leaders and our programs include Certification for Special District Managers supported by FSU in Tallahassee.  

Members of FASD gain a valuable asset through our strong active legislative program.  A specific agenda of legislative issues is developed through a serious of membership meetings and communicated to our lobbyist.  The association sponsors the Legislative Forum to bring members to Tallahassee to participate in legislative process.  Members are briefed on issues of concern and provided the opportunity to go to the Capitol and meet legislators.  We send regular email updates on the progress of important bills going through the house to enable members to keep in touch with important issues for their districts.  

FASD travels around the state holding member meetings to support education, networking and information sharing.  We publish quarterly newsletters and have a strong interactive website that provides updated information on the important items of interest to all special districts.  When important hot topics come to our attention we, also send email blasts to all members to ensure they have the most up to date information available.
